Seminole Wekiva Trail

Part #1 of 3

The Seminole Wekiva Trail travels through rural, residential and commercial areas as it passes through the communities of Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Lake Mary and Sanford.

Running along the former line of the Orange Belt Railway, the popular 14-mile paved Trail offers a peaceful alternative to busy streets and is considered one of Seminole County's showcase trails. The trail's proximity to the Wekiva River, a federally designated 'Wild and Scenic River,' also provides opportunities for viewing wildlife.

From Altamonte Springs the trail begins at the San Sebastian Prado trailhead where it traverses quiet residential neighborhoods and lush woods eventually reaching the ball fields and open park space of the Seminole County Softball Complex. Draped with Spanish moss, the tree canopy provides welcome shade.

Further north, at Lake Mary Boulevard, the Trail flows parallel with the International Parkway business corridor. Just past Mile 9.72, a spur trail on the right leads east to a pedestrian bridge over I-4 before joining the Cross Seminole Trail. Continuing north along the Trail on the east side of International Parkway, the Trail crosses over to the west side of International Parkway once you reach HE Thomas JR Parkway.

The final 4 miles along Markham Road mirror the peaceful wooded areas that began the trail. The Trails terminus is at the corner of Markham and Longwood Markham roads.

Parking and restroom facilities are available at the following locations:

San Sebastian Prado Trailhead – Off SR 436 in Altamonte Springs

Softball Complex and Sanlando Park – Off Douglas Avenue in Altamonte Springs
